Welcome to our new PTA Events Committee!

 

The purpose of this new committee is to put the FUN back in our PTA events. Busier families and lives have caused a drop in both PTA volunteers and parents/students participating in our events. This has led to a dramatic decrease in the amount of funds the PTA has available to help supplement our schools. The money raised through PTA fundraisers goes toward field trips, assemblies and fulfilling enrichment requests such as extra Chromebooks, tablets, books and other items the schools need that are not in their budgets.

 

We are hoping that by adding some new events and getting more people involved, with fresher ideas, we will find events that appeal to a wider range of families and will get people excited about our PTA and helping out our schools. We need a lot of volunteers to make this happen, both to generate lots of ideas and to have a larger pool of volunteers to help out with these events so that we are not asking for too much time commitment from our volunteers. Please pass this email along to anyone you know who may be interested in helping out, even if it's for just one event. We had a small committee meeting in June and brainstormed a list of ideas to get us started. We are hoping to be able to do a Family Night, a Ladies' Night, a Parents' Night, a Mother-Son Event and a Father-Daughter Dance this year. Some ideas we've come up with are:

 

• Family Night: Family Movie Under the Stars, Fun Run, Harlem Wizards, Video Game Challenge, Family Nature Hike & BBQ, Bike Parade

• Parents' Night Out: Live band performance, Casino Night, How Well Do You Know/Newlywed Game, Trivia Night, real or virtual (golf simulator) golf outing

• Mother- Son Event: Big League Dreams?

• Father-Daughter Dance: possibility of having it off-premise at Cater 2 U?

• Ladies' Night Out: make it a smaller event with more music, dancing and fun and fewer baskets, Paint Night, Purse Bingo

• Dining Out for a Cause: Applebees, Panera, Menchie's, PJ Whelihan's, Smashburger, Stratosphere, Sky Zone, possibilities are endless we just need volunteers to set up dates
